![]() ![]() They have to close down or be very low key about “dispersed” campsites in particular because of issues with safety mainly. ![]() They literally do not have the people to keep up with all of these recreational spots. I’ve worked for the Forest Service, and one of the huge reasons is actually the horrific lack of staffing. This, as they say, is why we can't have nice things. They came from the entrance adjacent to city streets and returned the same way aftger they were done spotlighting jackrabbits. With legit campers 50yds away on three sides. Truck throwing roost all over, additional drunks standing in the bed against the cab shooting wildly. West side: obnoxious weekenders blast music and destroy trees with an axe, because lulzĮast side: yelling local drunks in a brodozer pickup rip up a field in a "must stay on designated trails" area. My most recent experiences were on the east and west sides of Flagstaff ![]() Part of it is bad behavior by a minority of campers. As a result, demand for law enforcement patrols continues to increase for this area. Recreation management issues including elevated noise levels, unattended campfires, and conflict with local landowners and permittees have also occurred due to the increase in use. The recent increase in recreational use has resulted in resource damage including loss of vegetation cover and native plants, introduction of invasive plants, and disruption of wildlife. Hopefully this trend doesn't continue with other areas with great dispersed camping access, but it's probably inevitable. It's a shame that the rest of us have to deal with tight, crowded group parking lots now because a few shitheads couldn't leave a campsite better than they found it. Any thoughts?Įdit: after reading through many responses, I feel a need to rephrase: I'm very disappointed that the forest service took this measure due to irresponsible folks recreating and trashing a beautiful area. Very disappointing that this is the best that the forest service could do. My favorite part is getting to listen to everyone's generators run through the night. reasons? Does sedona just hate anyone that wants to go camping (let alone live in their vehicles?)Įveryone is so packed into these spots it feels like an RV and van city. However I can't help but think that this is a lazy solution to try to cut down on the amount of people boondocking in sedona because. I'm sure not all people that go to Sedona to camp are practicing LNT and are overall respectful to natural resources. I understand some of the reasons for this. Really hard to get a sense of isolation or any privacy when finding a spot out here now. The forest service and town of Sedona have now closed down almost all dispersed spots and limited space to 8 or 9 group parking lots. Even on the busiest of weekends I could always find a spot out here. West Sedona used to have more than plentiful dispersed camping. ![]()
